How to record a Zoom, Teams or Meet call on a Mac without a bot

Updated November 3, 2026

Most AI notetakers send a bot into your meeting. Everyone sees it join, some people ask it to leave, and the recording ends up on someone else’s server. A Mac doesn’t need one: since macOS 14.4, an app you allow can record the sound your Mac plays, so it hears the call exactly as you do.

What you need

Record your first call

  1. Open Memento and allow two permissions when it asks: Microphone, for your voice, and System Audio Recording, for everyone else.
  2. Start the call in Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, FaceTime, Slack, Webex or any other app, including the browser.
  3. Press Record. If Memento notices the call first, it offers to record it. Nothing joins the meeting.
  4. Mark what matters with ⌘B while you talk. Memento shows the live transcript and notes as you go.
  5. Hang up. You get the transcript with who said what, a summary, decisions and tasks with owners.

All of it runs on your Mac. After the first model download it works with the Wi-Fi off.

If it can’t hear the others

Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › System Audio Recording, turn Memento on and start the recording again. With speakers instead of headphones your microphone also picks up the call; Memento removes that echo, but headphones give the cleanest transcript.

Tell people you’re recording

No bot means nobody gets an automatic notice. Recording laws change from place to place, and some require everyone’s consent, so say it at the start: “I’m recording this to take notes; it stays on my Mac.”
