Memento — Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 30, 2026
Memento is a macOS app that records meetings and creates speaker-attributed transcripts and summaries entirely on your Mac.
- Your meetings never leave your Mac. Memento has no servers and no account. Your audio recordings, transcripts, summaries, chats, and project notes are processed and stored only on your device. None of it is uploaded, transmitted, or shared unless you choose to connect an AI assistant (below).
- Anonymous usage counts (you can turn them off). To see which features are used and what to improve, Memento sends anonymous counts of app events — for example “a recording finished”, “a summary was generated” or “the paywall was shown” — with coarse details such as the recording’s length range, the summary template or the macOS version. They never include audio, transcripts, summaries, notes, titles, names, questions you ask, or anything you type, and they are not linked to you: there is no account, and the device identifier is a one-way hash. They go to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in the EU, and are not used for tracking or advertising. Turn them off in Settings › General › Usage.
- Network use. Memento connects to the internet only to download its on-device AI models (speech-recognition, speaker, search, and summary models) the first time they’re needed, from the Hugging Face model host, to reach Apple’s App Store for purchases and restores, and to send the anonymous usage counts above (unless you turn them off). No audio, transcripts, summaries, or other meeting content is ever sent — only model files are downloaded. As with any download, the model host sees standard connection details such as your IP address; Memento sends it nothing else.
- Permissions. Microphone (to record your voice) and System Audio Recording (to capture the meeting’s audio) — used solely to produce your local transcript; Memento never records your screen. Optional, and requested only when you turn the feature on: Calendars (title a recording from the event happening at the time and note who was invited), Contacts (suggest names when you label a speaker), Reminders (add action items to a list you choose), and Notifications (offer to record when a meeting starts). What these provide stays on your Mac.
- Connecting an AI assistant (optional, off by default). If you turn on Settings › General › AI assistants (MCP), Memento runs a local server on your Mac (reachable only from this Mac, and only by apps that have your access key) so an MCP client such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or LM Studio can search and read your meetings while Memento is open. If the assistant runs a model on your Mac (for example in LM Studio), nothing leaves your Mac. A cloud assistant sends what it reads to its provider to answer you (for Claude, to Anthropic under Anthropic’s privacy policy). Memento itself still sends nothing; turn the setting off or reset the key to stop it.
- Your data, your control. Recordings and transcripts live in Memento’s local storage on your Mac. You can delete any meeting at any time, which removes its files, and remove the downloaded models in Settings.
- Third parties. None receive your meeting data from Memento. TelemetryDeck receives the anonymous usage counts above; if you connect a cloud AI assistant, its provider receives what it reads, as described above.
- Children. Memento is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.
- Changes. Any updates to this policy will appear at this URL.
