How to use AI on your meetings with nothing leaving your Mac
Updated November 3, 2026
Meeting notes are some of the most sensitive things you own: clients, salaries, health, plans nobody else should know yet. You can get AI help with them without sending them to anyone.
Step 1: Memento already does the basics locally
Recording, transcription, who said what, the summary and the tasks all run on your Mac. So does Ask: type a question and Memento answers from your meetings, with a link to the exact moment. No setup needed.
Step 2: add a bigger local model for harder questions
If you want a larger model to dig through your whole archive, run one on your Mac with LM Studio and let it read Memento:
- Install LM Studio and download a model that supports tool use. A larger model gives better answers but needs more memory.
- In Memento, open Settings › General › AI assistants (MCP) (called “Claude” before version 1.3), turn on Let AI assistants read your meetings and press Connect… next to LM Studio. Choose the folder Memento suggests.
- Restart LM Studio. Memento appears in the Program tab of the right sidebar; turn it on.
- Ask in a chat: “Which tasks are still open from this week’s meetings?”
The model, the questions and the answers all stay on your Mac. You can switch the Wi-Fi off and it keeps working.
Prefer Claude or Codex? See how to connect them, and keep in mind that cloud assistants send what they read to their provider.
